A new chapter

It feels strange that it’s been 5 months since I put down the virtual pen, after writing my last post explaining why I had decided to quit blogging. That post has since gotten lost in my blog backup, but the gist of it was that it had become stressful, no longer enjoyable, and I had become disillusioned. The competitiveness of the industry (and the amount of cheating *cough*Instagram bots*cough*) was making it hard to feel like I was or even could succeed, not to mention my dwindling page views that had me wondering if all the blood, sweat and tears were even worth it?

I’ll be honest, the first month or so without my blog was hard. I kept having all these ideas for posts, and wasn’t really sure what to do with myself without my biggest, most time-consuming (make that life consuming!) hobby. However by the second month, the thought of actually opening up my WordPress control panel and trying to write something, or worse yet going out with a suitcase full of clothes and shooting looks, was completely unappealing. Not having the constant responsibility felt freeing. Yes, I was still doing Instagram, but the feeling of spotting the perfect location and getting an amazing shot for the Gram still gave me that rush that blogging no longer did.

However, there are a lot of aspects of blogging that I can’t deny I’ve missed. I missed the events, getting to meet other bloggers and like-minded people. I missed working with brands I love, challenging my style and my content creation. I missed just having a space to chat about whatever I felt like, be it a polemic on feminism or just a ramble about how good Zara is..

So, slowly, I’m resurrecting this little spot of the internet that I call home. I can’t guarantee it’ll ever be anything like it was, heck, I have no idea where it’s going. I’m not putting any pressure on it, but I’ll be posting as and when I feel like it. There’ll be plenty of fashion as before (because I still can’t get enough of how good Zara is!), but with a splash more travel (like these photos, shot at the most beautiful Chinese clan house in gorgeous Penang, Malaysia) and maybe even a sprinkling of homeware as I recently moved house and have developed an obsession with soft furnishings and pom poms.

I think with everyone competing to try and make a career out of blogging, to try and be the best, it can be easy to forget the reasons why we started. So this will be my space, and if people read it, great. If not, well I can always count on my Dad for a page view!
